About RWMA Founder Adam James

Rainbow Warrior Martial Arts was Founded in 1998 by actor, writer and martial arts expert Adam James, an instructor of Kempo, Karate, Kung Fu, Wei Kuen Do, Jujitsu, Mauy Thai Kickboxing, MMA, Boxing, Wrestling, Escrima, Kenjutsu and Kobudo (weapons). Adam is a 10th Level Instructor with Leo Fong in the styles of Wei Kuen Do, Chi Fung, and Modern Escrima and is a 5th Degree Black Belt and Chief Instructor in Kempo, Karate, Jujitsu, and Kobudo under Professor Michael Dela Vega and the Hawaii Shin Kan Okinawan Kempo Karate Dojo. Adam’s mentor is Leo Fong, (www.leotfong.com), action film star, writer, director, Black Belt Hall of Fame member, Bruce Lee’s friend and training partner and author of numerous books including the brand new book “Beyond Kung Fu”. Adam studied with Dr. Kam Yuen, internationally renowned Grandmaster of Shaolin Kung Fu and the revolutionary Chinese Energetic Medicine technique called Yuen Method (www.yuenmethod.com). Kam Yuen was the martial arts consultant and choreographer for the television show “Kung Fu” and teacher to David Carradine, Michael Jackson and many other celebrities. In addition, Adam was the Director of Marketing and Business Development for World Black Belt, a martial arts website and media company Founded by Check Norris, Bob Wall, Gene LeBell and 50 of the world’s greatest martial artists. During his time with World Black Belt, Adam worked closely with many of the finest martial artists in the world and created numerous new programs, including the Junior World Black Club (the children’s program), the WBB-Nutrition program, the WBB-Travel program and the WBB-Business program.

Adam is also the creator of the Martial Arts Conditioning Specialist certification for the National College of Exercise Professionals and is certified for the National Academy of Sports Medicine, USA Gymnastics and Hawaii Special Olympics. He specializes in martial arts conditioning, power lifting, Olympic lifting, plyometrics, speed and power training, gymnastics, sport specific training, running technique, flexibility training (basic to advanced stretching) and mental fitness/sports psychology (meditation, positive affirmations, visualization, psychoneuroimmunology and peak performance). Adam is an Alumnus of Punahou School in Honolulu, HI (the same school as Barack Obama) and Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. where he was a scholarship student athlete and varsity football letterman and played under the first two African American Head Coaches ever in the Big 10 Conference, Dennis Green and Francis Peay. In addition, Adam is a former Fitness Manager for the Sports Club Company at the Spectrum Club-Canoga Park and was the Fitness Center Director at the Outrigger Canoe Club in Honolulu, HI, which was co-founded by Duke Kahanumoku. Currently, Adam provides private lessons for clients at their home or business.

As an actor, Adam performed in the films “Under Siege” with Steven Seagal and “Steal Big/Steal Little” with Andy Garcia, and has worked as a martial arts film consultant and fight choreographer. Adam is the nephew of the late Hal James, Tony Award winning Broadway Producer of “Man of La Mancha” and “Jallelujah Baby” and grew up in the theater community. Currently, Adam is playing the lead role of Jim West in the television pilot “East of West,” which is a combination of action/martial arts with mystery/horror. He has studied Method Acting, the Meisner technique and Improvisational ACting. He is the co-creator of the Action Film Workshop for Movies By Kids, a special training program for children to learn stunt fight choreography and directing action films and has written articles for Black Belt and Masters Magazine.
